  Difference  Between Plaster of Paris and gypsum, there is a significant variation in chemical formula and content. Calcium sulphate dihydrate (CaSO4. 2H2O) is the chemical name for gypsum, and it is made up of calcium sulphate dihydrate. Plaster of Paris has the chemical formula (CaSO 4 ) 2 .H 2 O or Ca 2 H 2 O 9 S 2 and includes calcium sulphate hemihydrate. Gypsum is a soft sulfate mineral that forms naturally in sedimentary rocks and is deposited by lakes and seawater. Plaster of Paris, on the other hand, is made by heating gypsum or calcium sulphate to a temperature of 120 degrees Celsius.
